Walker interesting several

Shrewsbury and Tranmere are reportedly leading the chase for former York striker Jason Walker.

The 30-year-old has left Conference Premier side Forest Green Rovers by mutual consent after failing to play regular football, though he had a prolific loan spell at Southport earlier in the season. The Shrews are looking to rebuild following their relegation from League One and have targeted Walker, who has Football League experience at York, while Tranmere could also make a move depending on which division they are in next season. Walker said: "I had a chat with the gaffer (Ade Pennock) after Saturday's game and we were both honest with each other. "He said he couldn't guarantee me starts next year and we both decided it would be best if I moved on, especially with the number of strikers under contract there. "I can't fault him at all, though it would have been nice to show the fans what I could do when I was there. "I loved my time at Southport, though, and John Coleman built my confidence back up and I'd like to think I played some part in helping them stay up. "I've had an offer already which I'm looking at and I believe there are three or four other clubs interested so we'll see. "Whether I move to a Football League club or an ambitious Conference club only time will tell, but I'm just looking forward to getting something signed and hitting the ground running in pre-season."
