Minor setback for Welsh

Scunthorpe midfielder Andy Welsh has suffered a minor setback in his bid to return to first-team action.

The 30-year-old former Yeovil and Carlisle winger, sidelined with a knee injury since early September, sustained an Achilles problem this week in his first 90-minute run out for the reserves. "It was great to see Andy Welsh back out on the pitch playing the full 90 minutes against Mansfield, but he has had a little setback," boss Russ Wilcox told the club's official website. "He picked up an Achilles problem, which I think was down to the hard pitch. "It was his first game back and he played the full game and unfortunately his Achilles is just inflamed slightly. "Hopefully, that'll settle down and we'll be able to see what stage he is at early next week." Welsh has been restricted to just six appearances since joining the club on a free transfer from Carlisle in the summer.
