Bennett prospers on youth return

Scot Bennett revealed it was a honour to lead the Exeter City youngsters into the last eight of the Premier League Under-21 cup.

The 23-year-old, a City regular with almost 100 Football League appearances to his name, stepped in for the ill Jordan Moore-Taylor and grabbed the Under-21's leveller as they knocked Blackburn out of the competition with a 2-1 victory. That Championship scalp came on the back of impressive victories over Torquay and Premier League duo Crystal Palace and Southampton. Bennett, who was named as captain for the game, was delighted to play his part in front of over 600 supporters. "Tis (manager Paul Tisdale) pulled me in on Monday and asked if I'd mind playing and it was a honour to play with them, the football they play is brilliant," he told Press Association Sport. "I was happy to come in and play with the boys, they are excited to be in this competition and it is a big competition for the club. "To come in and help them with a goal is brilliant. The young boys need a bit of experience sometimes and obviously I've played a few games with the first-team so to play with the likes of Jordan Tillson at the back is brilliant. "The boys want a big team next to they can show what they've got against a bigger side and see what they are matching up to. We have a bright future." The versatile Bennett is one of the first names on Tisdale's team-sheet and has played in attack, midfield, right-back and he is now a regular at centre-back again in Danny Coles' absence. "It has been quite an easy transition," he explained. "I've played there all through the youth system so it has been fairly easy to go back in there. "I feel I'm finding my feet again I think and I'm enjoying playing back there."
