Montano appeal date set

Image: Cristian Montano: Appeal set for later this month

Former Oldham midfielder Cristian Montano's appeal against his sacking will be heard on January 23.

The Latics dismissed the 22-year-old former West Ham trainee in December following his arrest by the National Crime Agency (NCA) as part of its probe into spot-fixing in football. The NCA, which was acting on information passed to it by a newspaper report, bailed Montano and five other players until April, without bringing any charges against them. Oldham had originally suspended Montano but sacked him following their own investigation, citing gross misconduct. However, Montano appealed the decision and accused the club of not listening to his protestations of innocence. A club statement read: "Cristian Montano's appeal against his dismissal by Oldham Athletic Football Club for gross misconduct will take place on Thursday 23 January."
