Kedwell can wait on operation

Gillingham are considering delaying leading goalscorer Danny Kedwell's hernia operation until later in the season.

The striker was was due to go under the knife last Thursday but, having played throughout the festive period, he then surprisingly completed 90 minutes in Friday night's 1-0 victory over Wolves. Kedwell, who has 10 goals to his name this term, currently feels he can play on through the pain barrier. And Gills manager Peter Taylor now looks set to put off surgery until the Kent club, currently 14th in League One and five points off the drop zone, are satisfied with their league position. Taylor told the club's official website: "As we speak now we are thinking about putting it off again. "He is feeling okay. The reason he started the other day is because I was convinced he was going to have the operation on Thursday. I thought if he has that operation he then won't be around for a month, and I couldn't risk playing Bayo (Akinfenwa) against Wolves. "That was my thinking, but now Danny has come in again, trained, is okay and is ready to play. He certainly has a hernia problem but it's not a bad one and I think with rest we can keep him going. "Rather than lose him for a month, the way he is feeling at the minute, I am thinking about not having the operation and he can then carry on as he is doing. Once we get to a figure (points) that we think we have progressed enough, then we can get it done." Meanwhile, Gillingham have opted not to extend the loan stays of midfielder Danny Hollands and defender Donervon Daniels, who have now returned to respective parent clubs Charlton and West Brom.
