Lainton makes Gigg Lane move

Bury have snapped up goalkeeper Rob Lainton on a free transfer after he left Bolton at the end of last season.

The 23-year-old has put pen to paper on a two-year deal with the League Two club following a successful trial at Gigg Lane. Lainton rose through the academy ranks at the Reebok Stadium but failed to make a first-team appearance and was released at the end of the 2012/13 campaign. He had several contract offers this summer, including from Championship admirers, but has opted to link up with Bury, for whom he appeared in the second half of Saturday's 2-1 pre-season victory at non-league Radcliffe Borough. Lainton becomes the eighth player to join the Shakers revolution following the takeover of the club in late May and the subsequent lifting of a transfer embargo.
