Exeter boss Paul Tisdale is not ruling out the possibility of midfielder Matt Oakley remaining with the club.
The 35-year-old former Leicester man, who is now out of contract, was a crucial cog in the City side that narrowly missed out on the play-offs last season.
But financial restrictions mean Tisdale will have to play the waiting game when it comes to his former Southampton team-mate.
"We'll have to wait until the end of the month and see what the finances are like," Tisdale told BBC South West Sport.
"I'm hoping Matt will still be available for us and I'll talk to him then, but at the moment I can't commit to him so he's entitled to talk to anybody if he wishes.
"I can't stop it, I can't prevent it and if they wish to talk to someone else I wouldn't stop them either."
