Werder Bremen have refused to comment on speculation suggesting Tottenham assistant head coach Steffen Freund is the man they want to replace Thomas Schaaf.

Transfer

Meanwhile, Eichin has played down reports Greece defender Sokratis Papasthatopoulos is on the verge of leaving Bremen for Bayer Leverkusen. Leverkusen executive Wolfgang Holzhauser had told BILD the club were keen to secure the services of Papasthatopoulos, but Eichin insists they are yet to agree terms. Eichin said: "I am definitely irritated about those statement from Bayer Leverkusen. "We are far off in terms of negotiations. Sokratis Papasthatopoulos is under contract with our club until June 2016. The transfer bid should therefore be rather like a double-digit million Euro sum to see us consider this. "We want to keep Sokratis, but there is interest in his services from many clubs. If there is a bid we have to consider as it's financially good enough, we would definitely take selling into consideration."
