York captain Chris Smith has signed a new one-year deal with the League Two club.

The 31-year-old will lead York for another season in League Two after survival was secured with a last-day win at Dagenham. Smith, who has made over 200 appearances for York during two separate spells, played a key role in their successful relegation battle. He first joined the club after an initial loan spell from Reading in 2001 and moved on to Tamworth and then Mansfield before returning to Bootham Crescent on loan in 2010. Smith, who made his move permanent in the summer of 2011, made 50 appearances for York this season, scoring four goals.
