Double delight for Weale

Chris Weale claimed both Player of the Year and Players' Player of the Year at Shrewsbury's end-of-season awards dinner.

The 31-year-old goalkeeper joined the Shrews from Leicester last summer and started every one of Town's 46 games as they preserved their League One status, keeping 12 clean sheets. "I'm very privileged and it's very nice to get two awards," Weale told the club's official website. "It's not my motivation to get personal awards but it is always a great honour to get awards from your fellow players and from the fans. "It has been a good season for me, this time last year I was sat at the Leicester awards on crutches watching Kasper Schmeichel get all the awards that evening. I was recovering from a serious knee injury unsure if I would ever play again, all you have to do is believe in yourself. "Shrewsbury took the chance on me and I must thank the gaffer (Graham Turner), Skitty (Chris Skitt, physio) and Gavin (Ward, goalkeeping coach) for taking the chance on me." Winger Jon Taylor scooped Town's Young Player of the Year award.
