Knill hails skipper effect

Image: Alan Knill: Full of praise

Alan Knill praised Lee Mansell after Torquay's longest-serving player inspired their victory over relegation rivals Barnet.

The Gulls edged home in a breathless five-goal thriller at Plainmoor, with Knill saying: "Lee was absolutely outstanding. "He drove the team on and led by example. He's everything you want in a team player - energy, aggression and he's got a fair bit of quality too. "I'm delighted not just with the result, but the performance. We asked for big displays from everyone. We needed everybody to play well, and I'm thankful that they did. "We needed the first goal to top off a really good first half. "We had done everything we had asked of the players at half-time, and we asked them 'Can you do it again in the second half?'. Fortunately, they did. "We got done with the equaliser, which looks miles offside from the replay, but the players showed great character and spirit not to go into their shells at that point. "We scored again immediately, which was very important, and I believe we deserved to win in the end. "Now we've gone above Barnet, we must go to Morecambe and try to get another three points on Saturday."
