St Mirren defender Lee Mair looks set to miss next Sunday's Scottish Communities League Cup final against Hearts at Hampden.
The 32-year-old centre-back may require surgery after being forced off with a stomach muscle problem during the 2-1 SPL defeat to Dundee on Wednesday.
Buddies manager Danny Lennon told the Daily Record: "It isn't looking good for Lee. He's struggling for the cup final which is a major blow. Not just for us but for the boy as well.
"It's possible he might need surgery so it could be weeks leading to months. And we're not prepared to take any risks with him.
"Lee has played for the majority of the season and has a good partnership with Marc McAusland.
"He is one of only two guys left from the club's 2010 League Cup final defeat. He's getting to the latter stages of his career and it will be a missed opportunity for him.
"But Lee has made a massive contribution in getting us to where we are. He scored the winning goal against Hamilton in our League Cup run.
"He'll be bitterly disappointed but knowing Lee's character and the strength of the man, I know he'll become a supporter and get behind us."
