Flynn impressed by keeper Long

Sheffield United winger Ryan Flynn says Mark Howard's injury blow has been softened by the quality of stand-in goalkeeper George Long.

Howard has been ruled out for up to three months with a thigh injury, but Long has turned in two performances beyond his years after stepping up to replace the Blades' first-choice keeper, and Flynn has lots of confidence in the 18-year-old's ability. "Mark has been doing really well. Simmo had been here a few years and Mark has stepped into his shoes and has performed really well, so it is disappointing to lose him, but George came on the other Saturday and did very well," said Flynn. "It did wonders for his confidence. He's a very good keeper. If you look at both our keepers they're happy with the competition between themselves and as far as the players are concerned we have two very good keepers. "I don't know how far George will go, but I know he's a really good keeper. We've had our personal battles in training that are a good laugh, but he is a very, very good goalkeeper, especially for his age. "He's really brave and throws himself at everything. I'm happy with George being behind me anyway."
