Former Argentina international is makes a fresh start at Malaga

Malaga have announced that they have completed the signing of Javier Saviola from Benfica on a free transfer. The 30-year-old attacker joined Benfica from Real Madrid in 2009 in a €5million deal and formed a prolific partnership with Oscar Cardozo in his first two years at the club. However, his future at Benfica had been a fervent source of conjecture in recent months after being consigned to the role of bench-warmer last season. Saviola reached on Thursday an agreement to terminate his contract with the Portuguese club before signing a one-year deal with Malaga. The former Argentina international may not be the only player to depart Benfica in the final hours of the summer transfer window, as Javi Garcia is believed to be on the verge of signing for Manchester City.
