Denmark international signs three-year contract with Serie A new boys

Sampdoria have finalised the signing of Denmark international Simon Poulsen on a free transfer following his departure from AZ Alkmaar. Poulsen left AZ at the end of his contract and he had been linked with a move to a string of clubs, including his former side's Dutch rivals Ajax. Premier League club Aston Villa were reported to be interested in the 27-year-old, while Napoli, Lyon and Valencia were also mooted as admirers. However, Poulsen has opted for a three-year contract at Sampdoria and completed the move to the Serie A new boys after passing a medical. Poulsen, who can play at left-back or on the wing, collected the latest of his 21 caps for Denmark at the European Championship earlier this summer. After missing out on the chance to feature in Samp's shock victory at AC Milan on Sunday, Poulsen could make his Serie A debut against Siena this weekend.
