Walsall manager Dean Smith was satisfied with his players' response after their 1-1 draw against Oldham at Boundary Park.

Smith wanted a reaction from his players following a 3-0 home defeat to Doncaster on the opening day and was pleased with the Saddler's performance George Bowerman's 79th-minute equaliser gave the visitors their first point of the season, and his manager admits he is pleased to get a positive result. He said: "Saturday wasn't the disaster some people were making out, but I needed a reaction and I got one. "It's good to be off the mark and we finished the game very strongly, which was pleasing. "We were favourites to be relegated right from the start of the season, so we've got a chance to prove people wrong."
