Freiburg have signed Spanish youth international midfielder Ezequiel Calvente on a season-long loan from Real Betis and the deal could become permanent.
The 21-year-old impressed on a trial before securing the move and will spend all of the next campaign in Germany.
Calvente has a contract with Betis until the June of 2014, but a term has been included in his loan which gives Freiburg the option to buy the player next summer.
Freiburg general manager Dirk Dufner told his club's official website: "We have worked out a loan agreement to bring in Ezequiel Calvente to Freiburg.
"It's a loan deal for 12 months and, absolutely, we do not have any sporting or financial risks with this decision."
Calvente could provide midfield cover for Johannes Flum, who earlier this week was ruled out for the start of the new Bundesliga campaign after suffering a calf injury in pre-season.
