Gillingham boss Martin Allen is considering a move for his former Barnet captain Mark Hughes, Sky Sports understands.
The Northern Ireland international scored on the last day of the season to keep Barnet up last season, but was then surprisingly released.
Now a number of League Two and Conference clubs are monitoring his situation.
However, he is believed to be on Allen's agenda at Gillingham and has already trained with the club.
Hughes, who began his career with Tottenham, spent three years with Barnet before departing at the end of the season.
