Turner backs Parry to shine

Boss Graham Turner believes Paul Parry's experience and versatility will see him make a big impression at Shrewsbury Town.

Midfielder Parry, who has played 12 times for Wales and spent seven seasons playing in the Championship for Cardiff and Preston, agreed his move to the Greenhous Meadow on Monday. The 31-year-old rejected the chance to remain at Preston to join the Shrews and Turner is delighted to have a player on board that he worked alongside at Hereford from 1998 to 2004. "Paul's a very experienced player and, from his days at Hereford, I know him well enough. I know his attitude and professionalism and he has got a lot to offer the side," Turner told the club's official website. "What he has to do is produce the form for us that he has shown over a long career and, if he does that, he will be a vital signing. I've seen him play in a variety of positions - at Preston last season he played left-back, wide on the left, wide on the right and off the striker. I've seen him play for Cardiff up front alongside Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink. "Like Rob Purdie, he's got that versatility where he could fill in a number of positions. He's got an open mind and I've got an open mind on where he will finish up playing."
