The scout reports...

Diminutive Czech winger Vaclav Pilar is being strongly tipped to make a big impact at Euro 2012, and we check on what to expect. Pilar began his career with his local side Hradec Kralove, making his debut as an 18-year-old in 2009, and by this time he was already a youth international for his country. At the start of this season, Viktoria Plzen agreed a deal with Hradec to take Pilar on loan with a view to a permanent deal. With Plzen, Pilar made an immediate impression and impressed during their UEFA Champions League campaign, which included games against Barcelona with Pep Guardiola singling him out for praise. At the turn of the year, controversy reigned as Pilar was dropped by Plzen when he refused to sign a permanent contract as it emerged he had agreed a deal elsewhere. It was confirmed that Wolfsburg had concluded a deal and, after a wrangle with Plzen, his move to the Bundesliga outfit was confirmed - although he will not be linking up with them until after Euro 2012. Pilar was handed his Czech debut in 2011 and he soon became an important member of the squad, scoring in their play-off victory over Montenegro. Now many are tipping Pilar to make a major impact in Poland and Ukraine, but is he capable? The short answer is yes. A small, powerful winger, he bears a striking resemblance to Swiss starlet Xherdan Shaqiri in terms of his stature and how he plays. Two-footed, but better on his right, Pilar tends to play on the left-wing where he enjoys cutting inside - although he is very good on the left side too and crosses flanks if needed. He has great balance and is tough to knock off the ball, which coupled with his vision make him an outstanding prospect.

The scout says...

Wolfsburg look to have picked up a very good young player, whose progress could be rapid once he makes it to the Bundesliga club in July. Certainly one to keep an eye on, not just for the future but also during the Euros.
