Stags move for Clarets target

Mansfield aim to steal march on rivals for Clements

Sky Sports understands that Mansfield Town have made an official approach to sign Burnley target Chris Clements. Hednesford Town midfielder Clements has caught the eye of a number of Football League clubs this season after scoring 17 goals from midfield. Clements enjoyed a week on trial at Burnley earlier this month and they are thought to be keeping tabs on his situation along with a number of other clubs. However, Mansfield are hoping to steal a march on their rivals by making an offer for the former Crewe youngster. Clements' agent, Gino Culbertson, has admitted the player is flattered by the interest from Mansfield and that he is keen to play at a higher level.

Progress

"Mansfield are the right sort of club to help Chris progress to the next level and I have no doubt he would be a great success," Culbertson told skysports.com. "However, a deal still has to be agreed and I hope that his club are realistic in their valuation of the player as the main objective is for him to progress his career and the club to benefit now and in the future from his success. "What you always hope is that a player's future is not jeopardised by him being priced out of the market. "Naturally, it is hoped that his move will be sorted fairly quickly in order that he can enjoy the close-season break with his partner Charlotte and newly born son Byron, knowing that his immediate future at a higher level is secure."
