Serie A highflyers have held talks with midfielder's agent

Lazio are in "pole position" to sign Lyon midfielder Ederson, according to the Brazilian's agent Antonio Caliendo. The 26-year-old has decided not to renew his contract with the French side after on-going talks finally broke down, culminating in a lack of game time for Ederson. Lazio have held talks with the former Nice man and a free transfer to the Stadio Olimpico is on the cards, although an agreement is yet to be reached. "Ederson decided not to sign a new contract with Olympique Lyonnais and for this reason they are not playing him," said Caliendo. "As for the future, Lazio is in pole position. We met with them, but for now nothing is closed because they're focused on the race for third place [in Serie A]."

Flattered

Ederson is flattered by Lazio's persistent interest in him and is hopeful his agent can come to terms with the club. He said: "They are a great club and the president (Claudio) Lotito has followed me with so much interest for five years. Once he came to Nice just to talk to me. "I am very proud of his admiration, it honours me. I can say that Lazio and my agent are discussing but there is still nothing decided. We need to wait some more." Despite his willingness to move to the Italian capital, Ederson stopped short of suggesting Lazio are his first choice, with interest from Brazil and other Serie A sides believed to be in the pipeline. "The most important thing is to find a club where I can play regularly and show myself, which does not happen now in Lyon," he added. "For this reason I am reflecting on the best choice."
