John Coleman said time was running out for Rochdale in their bid to stave off relegation after a goalless draw at Colchester.
The U's were held by a determined Dale, who have now taken five points from their last three matches, in their fight to stay in League One, while it is the first time since August that Colchester have failed to score in a home league game.
Coleman, who confirmed Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro and Kevin Amankwaah both picked up injuries, said: "When you go into any away game, you have to be happy with what you go home with in the first place.
"But we're at the stage now where we need wins and we know that we have to get them sooner, rather than later.
"We have to take our opportunities to take three points from games and go all out to get them. It was a game of limited chances and I don't think that either goalkeeper had too much work to do.
"The way that they set up to play, both teams played football in the middle of the park and cancelled one another out a bit. We have games coming up thick and fast now. But each game that we play, we have to go out believing that we're going to win it."
