Randall up and running again

Chesterfield midfielder Mark Randall continued his comeback from injury with a run-out for the reserves on Tuesday afternoon.

Randall started at right-back as a strong Spireites line-up lost 3-0 to Leicester. Simon Ford, Nathan Smith, Jamie Lowry, Alex Mendy, Danny Whitaker, Derek Niven, Jordan Bowery and Dean Morgan all started the game. The 22-year-old, a free signing from Arsenal in the summer, has not made a first-team appearances since breaking a bone in his left hand during a Central League Cup game against Port Vale in December. He is looking to force his way back into manager John Sheridan's plans, but reserve-team coach Mark Crossley does not think anyone who featured against the Foxes will have impressed the Chesterfield boss. "We were 3-0 down at half-time and the first-half performance was not good enough," Crossley told the club's official website. "Leicester had four trialists in their team but they were quicker and sharper than us and they wanted it more than we did. "There are places up for grabs and the gaffer was watching, but I don't think any of them can knock on his door after a performance like that."
