French outfit hope forward takes plenty of positives from loan spell

Bordeaux coach Francis Gillot hopes a loan spell at Blackburn will see Anthony Modeste return to France a more complete player. The 23-year-old forward has been allowed to link up with Rovers on a deal that is set to run until the end of the season. His time in England will see him thrust into a Premier League basement battle, offering him little time to find his feet. Expectations will be high, with Blackburn in desperate need of goals if they are to steer clear of trouble. Bordeaux were happy to help Steve Kean when he came calling, with Modeste making it clear that he wished to take on such a challenge.

Experience

There is, however, no option for a permanent deal to be struck in the summer and Bordeaux are hoping the former France U21 international will return to his homeland determined to be a regular starter. "When the player has an offer and he wants to leave, it is useless keeping him," Gillot told L'Equipe. "It could be a good experience for him and he could come back stronger. "I had faith in him at the start of the season, but he was unable to seize his opportunity."
