Latics were chasing Swiss winger in the summer

Wigan attempted to sign Sampdoria winger Marco Padalino during the summer transfer window, his agent has confirmed. Speculation surfaced over the summer linking the Switzerland international with a move to the DW Stadium. Nothing came of the rumours but the 27-year-old's agent, Giorgio Parretti, has confirmed they were accurate. Parretti also claims Russian giants Zenit St Petersburg were chasing the winger. "In the summer the rumours linking Marco to Zenit St Petersburg and Wigan were true," he told itasportpress.it. "Swiss and German clubs were also interested."

Torino interest

Padalino, whose Sampdoria contract expires in June 2013, has once again been linked with a move away from the club as the January transfer window approaches, with fellow Serie B side Torino thought to be interested. But Parretti insists he knows nothing of the recent speculation, adding: "You should ask Sampdoria if the Torino interest is real. Personally, I don't know anything. "Padalino has a contract with Sampdoria, which expires in June 2013, so he is satisfied from a personal and professional point of view." Parretti expects to discuss Padalino's future with Sampdoria chiefs in the near future. "I still haven't spoken with the leaders at Sampdoria because they have other issues to deal with at this time," he added. "I think in two weeks we can meet and gain a better idea about his future."
