Young keeper determined to play for top team

AZ Alkmaar goalkeeper Esteban Alvarado has revealed he hopes to establish himself as a top custodian and play for 'the best team in the world' in the future. The 22-year-old Costa Rican has impressed between the sticks for Eredivisie leaders AZ this season following Sergio Romero's summer departure to Sampdoria. Alvarado has set his sights high and hopes to eventually compete with the world's top keepers. "I am ambitious," he told ANP. "I want to play in goal for the best team in the world."

Impressive

Alvarado has kept five clean sheets in the league so far this season after a string of impressive performances but the youngster insists he is still learning. "I made a few mistakes at the beginning, but that can happen," he added. "I must make mistakes to progress. "It must not bother me. I still have much to learn." Esteban takes inspiration from former Ajax keeper Maarten Stekelenburg, now at Roma, as well as Chelsea shot-stopper Petr Cech and Inter Milan's Julio Cesar. "(Stekelenburg) was (at last year's World Cup) in South Africa by far the best keeper," he said. "Petr Cech is a great goalkeeper and Julio Cesar of Brazil, of course."
