Schalke custodian out with knee ligament damage

Schalke goalkeeper Ralf Fahrmann has been ruled of all footballing action for "a number of weeks" following an injury to his knee. The 23-year-old sustained ligament damage in his left knee during the Royal Blues' Bundesliga home game against Kaiserslautern on Saturday that ended in a 2-1 defeat. The German club's doctor Thorsten Rarreck has now revealed that Fahrmann will not be able to take to the pitch for the time being but has not stated the exact time that the German custodian will remain on the sidelines. "Ralf Fahrmann has sustained a ligament injury," said Rarreck on Schalke's official website. "With this injury Ralf Fahrmann will be out for a number of weeks. "He will undergo further medical tests in the coming days to explore the injury in detail and we will then decide on his treatment method." The former Eintracht Frankfurt keeper has also been suspended for one game by the German Football Association (DFB) after being sent off against Kaiserslautern. Schalke have stated that they will not appeal against this decision.
