Croatian joins Energie Cottbus on three-year deal
Midfielder Ivica Banovic has left Freiburg on a free transfer and has joined second division Energie Cottbus.
The former Croatia international has signed a deal until June 2014, having also spent the second half of last season in the second tier with Duisburg.
The 31-year-old was regarded as surplus to requirements at Freiburg, but Energie are confident the signing represents a good deal.
Energie Cottbus manager Claus-Dieter Wollitz told the club's official website: "This transfer should hand us more stability without breaking the young, skilful players of the team.
"Ivica Banovic is able to pick up a leading role inside the squad. He will also fit right in as a person.
"He has been playing for 11 years in the German leagues and he has always shown he is a professional."
