Sven Goran Eriksson has underlined Leicester's determination to return to the Premier League.
Johnson admits Eriksson reunion was a 'no-brainer'
Sven Goran Eriksson has underlined Leicester's determination to return to the Premier League after signing Michael Johnson.
The Manchester City midfielder has been reunited with the Swede after moving to the King Power Stadium on a season-long loan.
Johnson becomes Leicester's ninth signing of a very busy summer and as a result they have been installed among the favourites for the Championship title.
Eriksson, who took over last October, takes his team to Midlands rivals Coventry for their season curtain-raiser on 6th August and the former England boss knows the expectations of the owners.
He told a press conference broadcast live on
Sky Sports News: "They want to take Leicester City up to the Premier League and they want to stay there, to start with. For me, that is a big, big challenge so that is why I am sitting here.
"I am sure we have a better team this season than we had last season. Last season was not brilliant, but it was far away from a disaster."
The overhaul of the Leicester squad brings with it the pressure to succeed, of which Eriksson is well aware.
Positive
He said: "It's football we are talking about, it's not science. Football can go wrong, it can go well. But why should it go wrong?
"We have a lot of good football players. We have a big squad. So I am very positive. We all know what it is about. We want to be promoted and that is it."
Meanwhile, Johnson insists he did not have any second thoughts when offered the chance to again work with Eriksson following their time together at City.
The now-23-year-old seemed destined for star status when playing 25 games for the club in Eriksson's 2007/08 campaign, but he had not played for City since October 2009.
Johnson said: "It was an easy decision. I had not played for a while and then the chance to come back under Sven.
"I know him very well, (assistant manager) Derek Fazackerley as well. I know them, they know me. I know the type of football they like to play, so it was a no-brainer in the end."
