Wrexham swoop for Speight

Bradford City striker Jake Speight has left Valley Parade after an unsuccessful 12-month spell and signed for Wrexham.

The 25-year-old, who cost the Bantams £25,000 when he arrived from Mansfield last summer, has joined the Blue Square Bet Premier side for an undisclosed fee. Peter Jackson made it clear all City's contracted players were available for transfer after a poor League Two campaign and Speight is the first of them to fall victim to the cull, despite having a year left on his existing deal. Speight made 31 appearances and scored five goals for the Bantams. The Sheffield-born frontman has signed a two-year deal at Wrexham, who missed out on promotion to League Two following defeat to Luton in the play-off semi-finals. Former City striker Dean Saunders, currently in charge at the Racecourse Ground, said: "I'm thrilled that he's on board with us, he's a player I've watched for a long time. "He scored a lot of goals when he was at Mansfield and I tried to take him then, but Bradford paid £25,000 for him - Peter Taylor signed him - and it was too expensive for us. "He's had a season at Bradford, it's not gone brilliant there, and I've managed to dive in and get him."
