Southend player/coach Graham Coughlan felt the 1-1 draw with Burton was a typical end-of-season affair.
Barry Corr headed in his 21st goal of the season from a Ryan Hall corner before Scott Malone, who was on loan at Roots Hall last season, equalised in the 28th minute of the League Two clash at Roots Hall. Both sides were reduced to ten men when Jacques Maghoma and Lee Sawyer were sent off. Coughlan said: "If we had players with more tempo and more urgency then we may have gone on and won the game, but it was a typical end of season game and there was very little to play for. It was hard for us to get momentum and we took our foot off the gas after we scored so early. "The draw was a fair result but we felt that we should have had a penalty for a foul on Barry Corr, and games are won and lost on those decisions." Speaking about the red cards, Coughlan claimed not to have seen what Jacques Maghoma did but felt Lee Sawyer's sending off was unwarranted. "Lee's was quite harsh because there was only two minutes to go. It was an end of season game and he (referee Robert Madley) could have shown some common sense, but we have not had any all season so why should we get it in game 45?"
