Survival bid could hold key to potential move

Japan international goalkeeper Eiji Kawashima has revealed his interest in a potential move to West Brom. The 28-year-old currently plays for Belgian second division side Lierse, but has got word of reported interest from the Premier League outfit. Kawashima, who started each of Japan's four 2010 World Cup games, would provide stiff competition for West Brom's current first choice Scott Carson. However, the 28-year-old suggests he would only sign for the Baggies if they can maintain their Premier League status beyond this season. "West Brom may not be an elite club, but if they can stay in the Premier League there is a lot that is positive about them," Kawashima told The People. Kawashima moved to Belgian football only last year, but has impressed for Lierse, who are believed to be holding out for a £3million fee.
