The 30-year-old, who is out for six weeks with a knee injury, has agreed terms on a four-year deal at Sao Paulo, with the Brazilian club paying €7.6 million (£6.6m).

Fabiano played for Sao Paulo between 2001 and 2004 before heading to Europe with Porto and then moving on to Sevilla in 2005.

The Brazil star was a revelation at Sevilla, helping them win successive Uefa Cups in 2006 and 2007.

Sevilla confirmed the transfer of Fabiano, who had been contracted at the club until June 2013, on their official website.

"Money isn't everything in football," said Fabiano, who is set to be presented by Sao Paulo on 30th March.

"There isn't enough money to express how happy I am to once again wear the shirt of this team that is so close to my heart.

"I owe everything I have to Sao Paulo. I am going to sweat a lot in this shirt and score lots of goals."
