The 24-year-old attacking midfielder, whose contract at native outfit Shimizu S-Pulse recently expired, has penned a deal to keep him at the Bundesliga club until June 2014, according to German magazine Kicker.

Okazaki helped Japan to a 1-0 triumph over Australia in the Asian Cup final in Qatar on Saturday before flying out to link up with his new club.

After passing a medical in Stuttgart, he has put pen to paper on a deal with the German strugglers, currently 17th in the table.

Okazaki, capped 43 times for his country, admits he did not have the chance to celebrate Japan's cup success before heading out to Germany.

"Unfortunately, I could not celebrate winning the title with my team, since I had to leave straight after the game," he said.

"Things went well at the Asian Cup, I am top fit and hope I can train with the club as soon as possible."

The midfielder will return to Japan on Monday to see his wife and newly-born son before returning to Europe to play for his new club.
