Dutch left-back leaves Bayern

Bayern Munich defender Edson Braafheid is set to switch Bundesliga allegiances to Hoffenheim. The 27-year-old left-back has agreed to make the move following a disappointing stint at Bayern after arriving at the Allianz Arena in June 2009. Braafheid, formerly of FC Utrecht and FC Twente, has revealed that manager Louis van Gaal informed him that first-team opportunities may be hard to come by if he decided to stay. "In the beginning of January, Hoffenheim contacted me, as did a couple of other clubs," the Holland international said. "I wanted to wait to know what my options at Bayern would be. "After (a meeting with Louis van Gaal) I decided to move on. "I am very happy Bayern wanted to cooperate. I am looking forward to a new start." Braafheid will join Ryan Babel at Hoffenheim following his move from Liverpool, and he is looking forward to linking up with his compatriot. He added: "At the final moment I also heard Ryan Babel will be signing. It's good to have a Dutch team-mate there."
