Brentford have decided to cancel the contract of injury-hit striker Carl Cort by mutual consent.

The 33-year-old, who has managed just four appearances this season due to an Achilles problem, could now retire from the game. Bees boss Andy Scott said: "He has worked tirelessly throughout this season and last to overcome niggling injuries. "His determination and work ethic in trying to get back to full fitness this season has been a credit to him as a professional and a model for any young player." Cort once cost Newcastle £7million and also played for Wimbledon, Wolves, Leicester and Norwich, making more than 300 appearances and scoring 75 goals. Scott has moved quickly to fill the gap in his squad by re-signing Lewis Grabban on loan from Millwall until the end of the season.
