Stopper returns to boyhood club

AZ Alkmaar defender Gill Swerts has signed with Feyenoord on a six-month loan deal with the option for a free transfer and a one-year contract in the summer. Full-back Swerts, who began his senior career at Feyenoord after coming through the youth ranks, helped Alkmaar to the Eredivisie title in 2008-09. The 28-year-old Belgium international, capped 17 times for his national side, has also spent time at ADO Den Haag and Vitesse. Swerts, who has been at AZ for three years, says he is delighted to return to his boyhood club. "I'm Belgian, but Rotterdam feels like home," said Swerts on UEFA's official website. "I lived there for nine years. In that time I grew up. It's good to return."
