Deal to take defender to Marseille reaches deadlock

Rod Fanni's proposed switch to Marseille is in danger of collapse, with transfer talks having stalled. The Rennes defender has been heavily linked with a switch to Stade Velodrome for some time, with a deal expected to be completed in January. However, an agreement is still to be put in place and discussions have reached deadlock. The inability to push through a move has frustrated all concerned, with Marseille chairman Jean-Claude Dassier revealing that Fanni's representatives are responsible for the delay.

Irrational

"Today we can only be pessimistic," he told RMC. "Fanni's agent is being irrational and it is doubtful a deal will now be done. "I can't see any way it could be completed, except if the player decides to manage himself in a reasonable way." Reports suggest Marseille are preparing to drop their interest in Fanni and turn their attention to Nancy full-back Michael Chretien.
