Peruvian keeper agrees French switch

Nice have announced that a deal to bring Raul Fernandez to France has been finalised. The Ligue 1 outfit have been chasing the Peru international for some time and are delighted to have got their man. The 25-year-old will not officially become a Nice player until the January transfer window opens, but an agreement has been put in place with his current employers Universitario de Deportes. It has taken a few weeks for the formalities of the contract to be ironed out, with both sides keen to ensure that they get the best possible deal. The final outcome of those talks is that Fernandez will sign on with Nice and then head back to his homeland on a six-month loan deal.

Pedigree

He will return to Europe in the summer and join his new team-mates for pre-season training. Nice have moved to snap up Fernandez on a four-and-a-half-year deal after it was revealed that veteran shot-stopper Lionel Letizi is to retire at the end of the current campaign. Fernandez will arrive in France with significant pedigree, having been named the best player and best goalkeeper in the Peruvian league last term. Nice believe he has all the attributes required to be a success in Europe and they expect him to challenge fellow South American David Opsina for the number one jersey.
