Former Colchester defender Matt Lockwood would be keen to speak to Northampton Town after being linked with the League Two outfit.
The 33-year-old is a free agent after being released by the Us at the end of last season and is keen to find a new club.
The former Nottingham Forest player is currently training with Dagenham & Redbridge, after a loan stint with the League One newcomers last term.
Despite rumours linking Lockwood with a move to the Cobblers, the left-back told
skysports.com that no official approach has been made.
He said: "The phone hasn't rung at all and it is very worrying because you'd expect to have at least a few calls regarding your availability, so to have nothing is rather concerning.
"I wouldn't have a problem with dropping down to League Two at all. I've played at that level for virtually my entire career, so I am definitely open to all offers.
"Northampton Town are a big club for League Two, so I would love to talk with them if they are interested, but at the moment I've not had a call from them."
Experience
Many players are getting the chance to extend their careers into their late 30s, but Lockwood believes that strikers get more opportunities than defenders to continue playing.
"Strikers are often given more of a chance when they are over 30 because managers can use them in bursts, like Nicky Forster or Scott McGleish," he added.
"Both are older than me, but strikers can make a big impact off the bench and grab a goal, so they are often given more of a chance.
"Whereas, defenders usually play the whole 90 minutes, so some people reckon it is too much of a risk playing an older left-back, but I can't change my age and it is a shame that people are concerned with my age.
"I reckon I am a better player now, with the experience I have gained, than when I signed for Nottingham Forest, but my opinion won't change others."
