Tall midfielder signs three year deal

Cologne have completed the signing of midfielder Martin Lanig from Stuttgart for an undisclosed fee. The 25-year-old has signed a three-year contract with the club and will look to kick-start his career after succumbing to a long-term injury and losing his place in the first team. The tall midfielder however insisted that his injury worries were now firmly behind him and that he was ready for a new challenge. "I feel good and have no problems at all with my knee and I am not behind in training either," he told the club's official website. "I am not coming to Cologne for the money. I would like to achieve a lot with Cologne and the plans I know about have convinced me that Cologne is the right club for me."

Happy

The transfer puts an end to Lanig's two years at the Mercedes-Benz Arena, where after an initially impressive start by scoring four goals in his first season, the injury he picked up on the second day of last term ruled him out for the entire campaign. However, according to the club's general manager Michael Meier, Cologne believe he can return to his best. "We are really happy to have been able to sign Martin Lanig for FC Cologne," said Meier. "He is a midfielder who is very strong in the air and has a very powerful shot too. "He will set the tone going forward and has an excellent overview of the game."
