Sampdoria striker Nicola Pozzi will not require knee surgery but faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Injury to striker not as bad as first feared

Sampdoria striker Nicola Pozzi will not require knee surgery but faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines. The 23-year-old, who is on loan from Serie B side Empoli, has been ruled out for up to three months after having a medical assessment in Antwerp. The news is somewhat of a relief to Pozzi, who has previously undergone major surgery on his right knee in the past, with damage to his left the problem this time around. "I'm happy the injury is not bad as foreseen and that surgery won't be necessary," said the former Napoli forward. "It's not the same knee which was operated on a few years ago so this is really positive." Samdoria have an option to buy the Italy Under 21 international, who has two goals in seven Serie A starts, for a reported €5million (£4.5million).
