Nott what I'd hoped for

Lee Hughes fires Notts County into the lead after 26 minutes

Backache, another Grimsby defeat and Lee Hughes spoiled Hannah Cawsey's day.

Hannah Cawsey was far from happy with her last home game

I would like to start off my blog by thanking 'Homer Simpson' for commenting on my blog last week in defence of Phil Collins. His message also said he was a Man U fan so this obviously begs the question: did he use a false name because he's ashamed to support United or because he's ashamed he likes Phil Collins?! Doh! I was too ashamed to write a blog last week. Aldershot away and Town should have had it in the bag by half time. After an embarrassing penalty miss by Adam Proudlock I was left deflated and as we settled for the point I realised we have had no luck at all this season. The Notts County game was no different. In fact it's got to the point where the home game tickets should come with a health warning along the lines of - watching Town may destroy your soul! I toyed with my conscience before the Notts game as I'm sure everyone is fully aware that County have no problem in employing criminals. I didn't know if morally I could bring myself to attend the game, watching Lee Hughes play and carry on with his life as if nothing has happened. The signs were also there as I woke up with a really bad back. I don't know whether it was the Ibuprofen or the smell of Bio-Freeze that made me 'high' enough to book tickets and go to watch the game. Town started the brighter of the two sides looking organised and confident. However a lack of creativity in front of goal again proved to be the Mariners' weakness. I heard that Lee Hughes turned to Islam in his time in prison, myself I am not religious at all but I have now ruled out Buddhism, as karma certainly does not exist. Hughes scored against us, did a stupid dance (which maybe he practiced in his time inside) and then spent his time off the pitch taunting the town fans, showing no remorse for his awful past. If I were him I wouldn't be able to live with myself!

Idiot in charge

Of course it wouldn't be a modern day match without an idiot in charge, oh I mean a referee. Another absolutely awful game from the ref's perspective who was too concerned with the criminal on their team intimidating him to care about equality. In fact the referee seemed to give in every time one of their players moaned to him. If that happened to us Sweeney and Proudlock, as prolific moaners would be worth their weight in gold! His decisions included 'play on' when there was no advantage for Grimsby and he gave into the diving and moaning of most of the Notts players, specifically Edwards and Bishop. To be honest I'm just speechless, obviously big names make a difference? I miss the Bradford game on Saturday as I'm on emergency labour duty for my Aunty who is heavily pregnant. Good job she doesn't support Town or I think she might have had the baby by now! Anyway I am currently at Leicester Uni so I'll be there for the away game at County as it's just a short train journey for me. Think there's more morality in the job spec at Hooters in Nottingham than there is in Notts County FC! Up the Mariners!
