Brazilian defender to leave Palermo in the summer

Fabio Simplicio has informed Palermo that he will be leaving the club at the end of the season. The 30-year-old defender has spent the last four years with the Serie A outfit, but has decided the time has come to take on a new challenge. With his contract set to expire in the summer, and with fresh terms failing to materialise, the Brazilian has decided his future lies outside of Sicily. Simplicio is prepared to see out the remainder of the 2009/10 in his current home, but has made it clear that he will not be staying any longer - even if Palermo offer him a new deal. "It wouldn't matter how good the offer was," said his agent Gilmar Rinaldi.

"The fact that (president, Maurizio) Zamparini has not even mentioned anything to me has forced us to lose confidence in the club and end our relationship. "We have decided to leave Palermo. "There were several proposals to move now, but we have decided to stay in Sicily until the end of the season. "Fabio's adventure here has finished, but he doesn't want to leave yet as he hopes to help the club achieve their targets." Reports in Italy suggest Napoli and Genoa will lead the race to land Simplicio's signature once he becomes a free agent.
