Ribery and Escude pick up slight knocks

France's World Cup qualifying exploits have been dealt an untimely double injury blow. Les Bleus are currently struggling to secure top spot in their qualifying group and suffered another setback on Saturday as they were held 1-1 at home by Romania. That result has left France second in Group Seven, four points behind leaders Serbia. Raymond Domenech's side face the table-topping Serbs in midweek, but could be without key members of their squad. Julien Escude and Franck Ribery both picked up knocks against Romania and face a race against time to prove their fitness. "We don't know whether they will be able to play on Wednesday," admitted Domenech. "We shall see, we generally wait a day after a match (Monday in this case) to take an overall analysis." Ribery, who has endured an injury-plagued opening to the new season, is believed to be carrying a calf problem.
