Senegal international arrives on season long loan from Fiorentina

Southampton have signed Papa Waigo on loan from Fiorentina for the rest of the season. The striker still has to have his work permit authorised but the Saints are confident that is just a formality. The League One side have the option of signing the player permanently at the end of the season if the 25-year-old impresses at St Mary's. Saints manager Alan Pardew highlights that the Senegalese international, who was part of his country's 2008 African Cup of Nations squad, has come highly recommended after spells with Verona, AC Cesana, Genoa and Lecce. "We wanted another creative player and he comes highly recommended," Pardew said. "He's a quick, creative forward player who will help us score more goals and I can't wait to see him in a Saints shirt." Waigo began life at Fiorentina well, scoring twice in his first three games but was soon loaned out to Lecce last January. The pacey frontman arrives at Southampton considerably lacking in match practice having turned out just six times for the Salentini. Following his lack of football in the past few seasons Waigo is desperate to pull on the Saints shirt and prove his worth. "I am excited to be coming to England and I'm looking forward to showing the Southampton fans what I can do," he enthused.
