Scottish defender opts for A-League switch

Bob Malcolm has signed a one-year contract with Brisbane Roar following his release by Motherwell.

The 28-year-old left Fir Park at the end of last season and moves to Australia as a free agent.

He has spent his entire career to date in Britain, taking in spells at Rangers, Derby, Queens Park Rangers and Motherwell, but he is now looking forward to linking up with former Gers team-mates Craig Moore and Charlie Miller in the A-League.

"I went to an agent in Glasgow and spoke to him about the possibility of a move here. But it wasn't with Brisbane Roar - it was with a few other teams," Malcom told his club's official website.

"I phoned Craig (Moore) to ask about the other teams and he said 'why don't I speak to the manager and see if you can come here?'.

"He spoke to the manager (Frank Farina), and in the next couple of weeks I was on the plane over.

"Obviously staying with Craig and Charlie helps."
