Captain injures knee in friendly

St Johnstone captain Kevin Rutkiewicz is battling to be fit for the start of the new SPL season. The 29-year-old sustained the blow just 23 minutes into Tuesday's friendly win over Cowdenbeath. Rutkiewicz has been sent for scans and manager Derek McInnes is crossing his fingers the results come back negative.

Medial ligament

"It looks like Kevin has shaken up his medial ligament after making a block tackle," revealed McInnes. "He is going for tests so we should know more soon. It's definitely a concern. "The best-case scenario is that he will be only a couple of weeks, but it's really just a case of waiting to see what the scans show."
