Paraguayan looks set to sign for Sampdoria

Edgar Barreto is close to sealing a move to Sampdoria although he refused to rule out the possibility of other clubs entering the race. The midfielder is all but certain to leave Reggina this summer following their relegation from Serie A last term. The Paraguay international looks set to remain in Italy with Fiorentina also reportedly interested although Ajax have also been mentioned. The 24-year-old revealed that his agent had held talks with Sampdoria and the situation should become clearer in the next few days. "In these days my agent has been in touch with officials of Sampdoria and he told me that for next Monday he will know better what I will be doing in the future," Barreto told 970 AM. "I feel attraction for playing in Genova because this is a team that plays different, they have the objective of playing international competitions." However Barreto revealed that Reggina could prove to be a stumbling block in any possible transfer if they decided to place a hefty price tag on his head. He said: "If the negotiations keep on going in the right way, with me there will not be any problem. I know that Reggina wants an important amount of money but there could be an agreement for giving me on loan. "I would like to have this resolved in the next few days for knowing as soon as possible what I will do in the future."
